The largest act of civil disobedience in the history of Canada, the War in the Woods was a defining moment in B.C.’s history.
Starting in the 1980s and hitting a boiling point in 1993, protests over logging of old growth forests in Clayoquot Sound on Vancouver Island included blockades and the strength of 11,000 protesters.
932 people were arrested, 860 were tried in court and all were found guilty, and new policies were implemented by the government to protect old-growth forests and manage our forests in a more sustainable way. MacMillan Bloedel subsequently pulled their operations out of the region and First Nations picked up 50% of the logging rights.
This t-shirt is a nod to an iconic protest which appeared in international media coverage of the War In The Woods.
10% of the proceeds of it go towards the Ancient Forest Alliance who work to protect B.C.’s endangered old-growth forests and ensure a sustainable, value-added, second-growth forest industry.
