Most longtime Vancouverites will tell you that the name of the mall that takes up the city block bounded by Pender, Keefer, Abbott and Taylor is "Tinseltown".
Opened in 1999 in Chinatown (or Gastown, or Crosstown, or the Downtown Eastside, depending on which BIA you ask), the shopping complex has actually never been called Tinseltown Mall; its official name has always been International Village. However the large, partly-neon sign located above one of the mall's entrances (emblazoned with the name of the Cinemark theatre located on the third floor) was so dazzling that the name just stuck.
In 2010 Cinemark sold the theatre, the name was changed to Cineplex Odeon International Village Cinemas, and the iconic sign came down. Tinseltown Mall’s spirit lives on in our memories, and now this t-shirt.
