CISL - on the AM radio dial at 650 - was one of the best Vancouver radio stations of all time.
Launched in May 1st of 1980 in Richmond, they were geared specifically at that community, offering local news as well as music.
In the late 1980s they expanded into the Vancouver market with a stronger signal, and a new direction geared towards simply playing the all time greatest oldies.
A common dad joke in the 1990s was that the station was called "650 senile" instead of the "C isle" pronunciation, based on the listenership being an older demographic.
A sports station now broadcasts to 650 AM. It's a fine station, but it lacks the ol' jukebox hits of its predecessor!
