Absorbed by the massive U.S. timber company Weyerhaeuser in 1999, the conglomerate company MacMillan Bloedel was formed in the 1950s in B.C. when three forestry companies merged.
Two of MacBlo’s founders have gardens in Vancouver which are dedicated to their families: Julius Bloedel and Whitford Julian VanDusen.
They had a good run but they were not without controversy. In fact the very mention of them today conjures up memories of more than one.
Their headquarters building in Vancouver was designed by celebrated architect Arthur Erickson and was built in 1969. It stands in the business district at Georgia and Thurlow.
