BowMac Tee

Erected in 1958, the BowMac sign on Broadway in Vancouver was once recognized as North America's "largest freestanding sign."

Lit by 1,200 lightbulbs, it could be seen from miles away, serving as a beacon for the Bowell McLean car dealership. The business closed in November of 1995 and the sign became an iconic piece of heritage with an uncertain future.

Slated for demolition, it was effectively saved from the wrecking ball in 1997. A contentious debate happened at City Hall when council voted on a compromise which saw Toys R Us erecting their own sign over top of the existing one. It remains there to this day.

This t-shirt celebrates the BowMac sign in all its pre-1997 glory.
